On-Campus Recruiting Program Policies (Students)

In order to ensure a fair, successful, and professional recruiting experience for everyone at Wellesley College, Career Education expects all participating students to uphold the following standards and abide by the following rules. By participating in our recruiting program, you agree to these policies:

1. Be Honest and Responsible — Applications

  • Honesty: All application materials you submit (resumes, cover letters, transcripts, etc.) must be accurate and truthful.
  • Responsibility: You are responsible for tracking your own application deadlines and interview details.

2. Honor Your Commitments — Interviews, Coffee Chats, or Virtual Career Fair 1-to-1’s:

  • Cancellations: If you must cancel an appointment with an employer, you must do so via Handshake at least two full business days in advance. You must also notify our team by emailing recruiting@wellesley.edu.
  • Emergencies & Illness: For last-minute emergencies or cancelations, you must contact Career Education on the day of the interview. Email recruiting@wellesley.edu as soon as possible to cancel.
  • Late Cancellations & No-Shows: If you cancel late or fail to attend a scheduled interview or employer appointments (e.g. virtual career fair 1-to-1’s and coffee chats) you are taking a spot from another one of your Wellesley sibs. Employer Engagement will request to meet with you, and ask you to write a professional email apology to the recruiter and copy recruiting@wellesley.edu
  • Best Practice: We strongly recommend sending a thank-you email to your interviewers within 24 hours.

3. Act with Integrity — Job & Internship Offers:

  • Decision Timeframe: We advocate for employers to give you reasonable time to make a decision. Our guideline is a minimum of two weeks from the written offer. For full-time offers made during fall recruiting, we ask employers for a deadline of November 1st or two weeks after the offer date, whichever is later. You can always ask an employer for an extension, even if it might not be granted.
  • Accepting an Offer: You are encouraged to meet with an advisor to discuss multiple job/internship offers if you need support making a decision. Once you accept an offer, either verbally or in writing, your job or internship search is over and you are encouraged to withdraw other applications.
  • Reneging is Unacceptable: Reneging (withdrawing) an accepted offer is discouraged and a breach of professional ethics. If a company contacts Career Education regarding a student reneging on a job or internship offer, Employer Engagement will contact you directly for more information regarding your decision. Withdrawing an accepted offer can hurt the recruiting relationship between the College and the employer, and also negatively impacts future opportunities for Wellesley students.

Students who do not abide by these policies risk removal from the on-campus recruiting program or other Career Education programs, temporary suspension from Handshake, and/or referral to Honor Code Council. Reinstatement will be at the discretion of Career Education staff.
